Crowdsourcing. The wisdom of crowds. Outsourcing to the masses....the basis upon which Wikipedia was founded. Essentially a "Two heads are better than one" idea which the internet, naturally works well at facilitating.

On a wing and a prayer #PigeonRace09

Yesterday's race between Winston the homing pigeon and an ADSL line to deliver the same amount of data is being profiled on all the major international news and tech sites. The campaign was created by Durban based IT company The Unlimited Group to see if a data card strapped to a bird's leg could be delivered quicker than an adsl line.....the bird won :)

What kind of a Facebooker are you?

Whenever I chat to people about Facebook I refer to it as a 'Necessary Evil' in SA. I'm not a massive fan of Facebook - it's a 'closed' network and also I feel that once people have re-connected and scanned photographs they then move on. I mean, if you haven't interacted IRL (In Real Life) with someone in 20 years then are you about to start now?

Evan Ratliff from Wired.com is doing an interesting experiment which they have turned into an online sleuthing competition to win $5000. Evan is going missing for 30 days....he's truly trying to disappear.

A premise of effective social media marketing and interaction is that it allows brands / products / initiatives / collectives to identify and build communities around similar interests. For me, this is the real differentiator as social media (blogs, social networks, forums, wikis....) give people an opportunity to respond and for conversations to develop and grow.
