Google Voices Connect
Google Voice is a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) that links a person’s phone numbers together. So in other words a person can receive your Google calls, cell, home or work calls on any one of these at any time. It goes further in that it allows you to selectively route calls at different times, so for example no work calls at home after hours. Other exciting features include the voice mail retrieval from anywhere including visually by automatic voicemail transcriptions to email or sms.

The service was first launched in 2005 by Vincent Paquet and Craig Walker and known as GrandCentral. Google purchased GrandCentral in 2007 for US$95 Million (R790 Million). Google went silent on the project for sometime and many believed the project to have been shelved until this year when it was re-launched as Google Voice. Currently only previous GrandCentral users have access to the service but it has been announced by Google that the service will be open fully to the public shortly.
The system piggybacks off existing phone networks for now but it is alleged that ultimately Google will offer the full service on it’s own or work in conjunction with mobile operators as for example done with Google Android. Could Google land up dominating the telecoms industry as is has done online, well let’s wait and see.

I love Google Voice. There SMS feature really got me into it. I can send off free text messages to Bangladesh, India, and USA. It saves me good money on my texting plan from Verizon Wireless because I can utilize that to send now. I think Google always does a wonderful job of giving customers what they want and need. I have found in the future they are incorporating Voice with the Android. Plus they purchased a new VoIP company which they will mix with the other two to give some excellent features. I need to get myself an Androind now haha.
