Upset users took to Twitter, one of Facebook’s mortal enemies?, to write about it: “Facebook just told me to reconnect with a friend of mine who died a couple years ago. Not cool, Facebook,” one user tweeted. Another says: “One of my friends on Facebook has passed. FB keeps asking me to reconnect with her… FB will never be smart enough…” And another: “Facebook just suggested that I ‘reconnect’ with someone who passed away 2 years ago. That’s so messed up.”
A survey of 16 to 24 year olds has found that 75% of them feel they “couldn’t live” without the internet.
Yesterday’s race between Winston the homing pigeon and an ADSL line to deliver the same amount of data is being profiled on all the major international news and tech sites. The campaign was created by Durban based IT company The Unlimited Group to see if a data card strapped to a bird’s leg could be delivered quicker than an adsl line…..the bird won
And for the first time ever, Twitter has really come into its own for me. Turns out that a massive amount of music gets posted on Twitter every day, you just need to know where to look or how to search for it. Who knew?
In this day and age is it possible to go off the grid completely? Can you truly hide from the internet? Go underground and never be found?
Evan Ratliff from Wired.com is doing an interesting experiment which they have turned into an online sleuthing competition to win $5000. Evan is going missing for 30 days….he’s truly trying to disappear.
So when something like Twittorati arrives to aid my quest I get quite excited. Well, first I get freaked out that maybe Big Brother really does exist in the world of the web and can see how much surfing and Tweet watching I do in an attempt to do as little work as possible. But then I get over myself. (It takes an awful lot to feed laziness.)
I can’t tell a lie. I think I’m very busy and important. Well, busy at least. Which is why in the past I’ve had numerous moments where I tend to think Twitter really is for the birds. Do I really need to know from my best friend in his latest Tweet that he just spent five minutes in the loo wasting his company’s time and toilet paper? (You know who you are.)
So, on a recent procrastination-inspired Google, we came across a very average, but fun, new way to procrastinate called ‘My Life is Average’ As the good people at TechCrunch.com call it “the service Twitter was meant to be.”
With so many social networks available it’s becoming necessary to ‘own’ your brand. For brands and individuals alike it’s important to be consistent and instantly recognisable online. That’s why it’s generally better to use your own name online and to then make sure you use it on twitter, delicious etc and customise your linkedin url and flickr url instead of the standard random numbers.
